Hoss is the principal of and broker for the commercial real estate firm MACVAUGH & CO. Commercial Real Estate Services. From 1987 to 1990, Hoss was a commercial real estate agent with the downtown Los Angeles office of Matlow-Kennedy Corporation.

In 1987 Hoss obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern California with an emphasis in Entrepreneurial Management; a combination of courses and practical applications that concentrated on the business needs of "start-up" and "small business". While obtaining his masters degree he worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Southern California for undergraduate marketing courses.

Prior to his advanced degree studies and the career shift to commercial real estate, Hoss operated a real estate investment firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The investment firm was involved in the construction and property management of residential real estate from 1983-1985. In 1981 he graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania with a degree in Fine Arts. Hoss is a member of the AIR Commercial Real Estate Association.
